Stained-glass technique

The technique for making Stained-glass or Glazing  was developed Centuries ago. Mostly coloured mouth blown glass is cut to size. The cut to size glass pieces are then assembled using lead cames which are soft enough to follow the shape of the glass, but strong enough to hold everything together. Cames can easily be cut to size with a lead knife. The lead cames are H-shaped when seen in cross section, which allows them to intersect. All the intersections are then soldered together on both sides using a soldering iron and tin solder. To provide more strength and guarantee a weatherproof unit, the stained-glass panel is cemented.  Stained-glass cement, contains Linseed oil, is brushed into every open space between the lead and glass. To add even more strength to larger panels reinforced lead cames can be used instead of regular lead.  Finally, the lead cames need to be pressed shut with a lead burnisher and all excess cement is removed using a brush or special stained cleaning towels. Fusing technique

Fusing applies to the fusing technique where several pieces of glass, usually of different colours, are melted together in a kiln creating one unified piece of glass.  Fusing kilns heat the glass from the top instead of from the sides. 
Most smaller/medium size fusing objects one firing cycle will take about 24-48. Full fusing will occur somewhere between 800 en 900 degrees Centigrade. Firing is repeated as often as necessary in order to reach the desired effect. When he has achieved his final flat sheet of coloured glass it is time for the last firing. This is when the form or shape of the fusing object is created.
The sheet of glass is put once more into the kiln and with the help of 'moulds' is 'slumped'. When the fusing is at about 650 degrees celcius it begins to soften and to stretch. By careful control of the weight, temperature and viscosity, a specific fusing shape can be achieved.
